Ulefone has introduced its Omni Sentinel app, a new AI trail and security camera app that adds wildlife observation and local monitoring capabilities to compatible rugged smartphones. Combining detection, recording and playback in one app, it gives users another way to put their phone’s existing hardware to work.

Omni Sentinel is designed for both outdoor and indoor scenarios, from observing wildlife and monitoring a campsite to keeping watch over a garage, driveway or yard. Users can position their phone to cover an area, preview the camera feed on its screen and review recorded footage directly on the same device.

At the core of the app is on-device AI that identifies people, vehicles and animals, tagging recorded events by category. Adjustable detection sensitivity allows users to tailor monitoring to their surroundings. A built-in alert function can also play preset audio warnings when activity is detected, providing an audible response at the monitoring location.

To simplify playback, Omni Sentinel organizes events on a color-coded timeline. Users can filter by category and jump to relevant moments, such as a passing vehicle or an animal entering the frame. The app supports manual, scheduled, AI-triggered and background recording modes, offering flexibility for different monitoring needs.

Recordings are stored locally on the phone, with microSD expansion available on supported models. According to Ulefone, the app keeps recordings on the device without cloud uploads or a cloud storage subscription. Users can manage and review their footage through the phone’s touchscreen interface.

Omni Sentinel also makes use of compatible camera hardware, supporting video recording at up to 4K resolution and infrared night vision. On phones equipped with a built-in IR night vision camera, infrared illumination enables black-and-white recording in darkness. The app also draws on the phone’s battery and rugged construction for outdoor use. Camera capabilities, battery capacity and durability ratings depend on the specific model.

The app is already available through system updates on selected Ulefone devices, including the Armor 30, Armor 24 Pro and Armor 22 Pro, with support for more models coming soon.
